Several years ago one person had a vision of starting up an outreach cafe where meals could be provided for those who are struggling, lonely or who simply needed a helping hand with meals. Four years ago the vision became a reality and volunteers from St. Anthony's Parish Glen Huntly pulled together to provide a 3 course meal each Thursday night... now serving 70 - 80 people ... & sometimes up to 100.
For all their efforts in providing this outreach to the community they were on the receiving end of a grant from Feed Melbourne plus several other substantial donations which enabled them to purchase a van - second hand, but greatly appreciated & put to good use.
Tony's Cafe, named after St. Anthony, has now branched out to visiting people in hospital. providing kitchenware and clothing; and is even helping to find accommodation for their guests.
All people working within the cafe donate their time to set up, cook, serve & clean up in order to provide wholesome meals in a warm & welcoming environment. These volunteers ranged from ordinary people with the parish & community to professional cooks & chefs.
What an amazing effort - what an amazing group of people - what an amazing achievement by people who band together to help others.
Congratulations & Happy 4th Birthday Tony's Cafe.
Meals are served every Thursday night from 5 pm - 7pm, in the Waratah Room - entry via Neerim Rd, 164 Neerim Rd Glen Huntly, Melbourne.
