Have you met ... What-nots for Tiny Tots

It's a while since we've had our Have you met ... feature on our blog, but we thought it was high time we brought it back to introduce you to a few of our regular stallholders. Today's post features the lovely Kerry from What-nots for Tiny Tots. Not only does Kerry make a range of fabulous toys and accessories for little kids, she is our face-painter in residence and helps to create the craft activities in the Children's Corner. Kerry recently joined The Handmade Show's committee.

Some of Kerry's innovative products include her Treasure Pockets - tiny pouches on belts for holding Very Important Things, Tooth Fairy Pillows and crayon rolls for portable craft time. She also makes a lovely range of useful baby items including tiny pre-walker shoes, pram covers and more.

Take some time to get to know What-nots for Tiny Tots...

1) Tell us a little bit about What-nots for Tiny Tots and the items you create.
It all started when my little boy needed his first pair of pre-walkers shoes. I was so impressed with how well they turned out that I ended up making a pair for all the babies in my mother's group! My product range has evolved quite a lot since then, to include lots of 'take-along' and imaginative play toys.

2) Where do you find inspiration for your creations?
My kids are my inspiration. Every product in my range has been road tested by my Tots before being taken to market. I try to design items that both delight and occupy little people.

3) How does the market experience contribute to your business?
I love talking about my products! I may seem a bit biased, but I think they are awesome! And I love watching them go home and making kids happy
4) Which one of your items should everyone have in their home?
Do I have to pick just one? Then I'd probably have to say a Custom made Dolly. He/she can be made to resemble the child owner and even have the same name. They can become lifelong friends!
5) When not at The Handmade Show, where can we find you?
My Facebook page is www.facebook.com/What.notsforTinyTots and my website www.whatnotsfortinytots.com.au. It's currently under construction, but should be available soon. You can also purchase online at www.hand-made.com.au/what-notsfortinytots.

Thanks Kerry for taking the time to answer our
Fabulous Five Questions.

Goodie bags are back for our birthday!

The Handmade Show celebrates its 4th birthday at the October 18th market (even though it's really in January), and we're going to hand out free Goodie Bags again to 100 lucky market-goers.

This is a fabulous opportunity and an inexpensive way to get your business seen before Christmas.

The invitation is open to stall holders, micro businesses, wahms, wahps & hobby businesses who love to create beautiful things.

How does it work?

  • You supply us with your promotional material.
  • We place your material into specially marked Goodie Bags.
  • We distribute them to market visitors.
  • They take their goodie bag home & go through it all, use up discounts, special offers, samples...use the info to reach you, place orders, check out your web site or visit you at your next market. What doesn't get used immediately gets used later or is passed on to family & friends who can make use of it.
  • It works because the bags are targeted directly to your target market - the market goer.

How much will it cost?

  • $15 for 100 bags' contributions.

What promotional materials can I submit?

  • Business cards, business postcards, special offers, discounts, vouchers, product samples - just to name a few ideas.
  • For more ideas read HERE.

Interested? Here is what to do next...

  1. Send us an email - thsapplications@gmail.com
  2. In the Subject line write – Goodie Bag Submission.
  3. Briefly tell us about what you wish to include in the bags.
  4. You will need to ensure you have 100 items to send us by the deadline date (see below)
  5. We will send you an invoice with payment details and further instructions on where to send or deliver your promotional materials.
Please Note: Cost cannot be split. We prefer you to supply the entire 100 bags; but if you are unable to do so then we may consider you to supply less than 100 items - however, cost remains the same and cannot be split.

  • Deadline for notice to contribute – Monday 29th September
  • Deadline for payment  Tuesday 7th October
  • Deadline for promotional material delivery  Monday 13th October

Retro Beads ~ Polymer Clay Workshop

Who would have thought we'd be talking about workshops at The Handmade Show? Yes that's right, we have been doing just that. So now, not only can you buy gorgeous creations from our stall holders, relax at the cafe and enjoy the entertainment, we're also going to give you the opportunity to try something creative yourself.

The Handmade Show is hosting its very first creative workshop on Saturday 12th April. It will be run by the lovely Dani from The Whimsical Bead.

Course Outline:
Students will learn the basics of working with polymer clay and about the tools and accessories that can be used with this medium. They will also learn the basics of ‘caning’ and use an ‘extruder’ to create a dotty ‘retro’ cane and then learn to make pieces from this cane. Students will have the option of what they choose to create – beads, pendants, scrapbook embellishments etc. If they do not wish to create this particular project, they are more than welcome to come and learn about working with polymer clay and then have some ‘free play time’ to experiment with the clay and make their own creation/s.

Time Frame:
This is a short workshop which will run from 10.30am until 3.00pm (4.5 hours) There will be a 1 hour break in the middle of this time frame where students can go and have lunch and browse the market. During the students break Dani will bake their creations.

Cost and Bookings:
The cost of this workshop is $40 (plus materials).
Bookings will be taken via Dani either online or via phone or email.
For more detailed information please go to Dani's website where you can find out more about this workshop; plus make your booking.

We'll need a minimum of 6 students in order for the workshop to go ahead.
So come on board and get creative at The Handmade Show!

Creative Workshops Call Out.

Do you run Creative Workshops and are based in Melbourne?

We are looking for people who can organise & run creative workshops at our monthly Handmade Shows. These workshops would take place during market hours between 10.30am - 3.30pm  (or may start a little earlier if needed).

The workshops can be for adults or children; crafts can range from card making, scrapbooking, sewing, felt crafts, canvas painting, quilling, stamping, tassel making ... or other similar crafts or 'how to' class. Some types of workshops may not suit for our venue so if unsure please contact us. We're open to suggestions.

This is a new thing we'd like to start up so to begin with it will be on trial. We see it as a good opportunity to offer our market visitors a chance to try out something creative; plus it would be a great opportunity to promote your workshops. We would provide the space, for a small fee, and help you promote the workshop and direct potential bookings to you; You would bring all the necessary materials to run the workshop.

If this is an opportunity that interest you, please contact us via the contact form (in side bar).
Please include a small description and some detail about your workshop. We'll be in touch to discuss further details. Thank you  :)
